Hey PS+R Crew!
Steve is currently in Los Angeles with the US Men’s National Soccer Team, helping them prepare for their World Cup matches.
That’s not just a cool headline.
That’s what happens when you spend years building expertise at the intersection of performance and rehab.
While Steve preps elite athletes for the biggest stage in soccer, the same principles he applies on the field are showing up every day at PS+R here in St. Augustine.
Take one of our ACL post-surgical patients an example. After surgery, they came to us with one goal: get back to the sport they love.
Not just healed.
Back.
Competing.
Through a structured return-to-sport progression targeting strength, neuromuscular control, and movement quality, they did exactly that.
This is what performance physical therapy looks like.
It’s not just fixing what’s broken. It’s rebuilding the whole athlete.
Whether you’re competing at the World Cup or writing your own comeback story, the process is the same.
Do the work.
Trust the progression.
Get back on the field.
And Apparently, Towson University Noticed The Great Impact PS + R is making too!
As Steve’s alma mater, they just published a full feature on him and what it’s like behind the scenes at the World Cup. This was an awesome opportunity to highlight the work going on at such an important event!

The Missing Piece in ACL Rehab: Your Brain’s Bandwidth
This article from physio and researcher Mick Hughes stopped me in my tracks, and I think every athlete recovering from an ACL injury needs to read it.
The piece breaks down why an athlete can look physically ready to return to sport and still be at high risk.
Research shows that post-ACL surgery, the brain recruits significantly more neural activity just to control knee extension.
When that athlete then has to also process game speed, spatial demands, and split-second decisions, performance drops and injury risk climbs.
Looking ready is not the same as being ready.

Your Knee Isn’t the Same After an ACL Tear — Here’s the Proof
Most people think ACL rehab is about getting strong again.
The research shows the injury changes how your nervous system controls your knee – not just how strong it is.
That’s exactly why strength tests alone can’t tell you when you’re actually ready to get back out there.
Unmatched Care
“Combining decades of study, education and practical application of all things kinesiology, Steve, Libby and team are building the foundations of a complete rehabilitation practice. Their collective approach to working with clients, sharing their research together, and custom tailoring unique individual rehab programs, enables an atmosphere of cohesion and understanding unmatched in this part of Florida, and maybe further afield. To this day I have yet to find anyone or any rehab clinic anywhere that can come close to matching the care and knowledge that I had at PS+R.” — Adam James
Adam came to PS+R before and after multiple surgeries, and what he describes is exactly what we set out to build: a clinic where the science is current, the programming is individualized, and the care is genuinely personal.
That kind of outcome doesn’t happen by accident.
It happens because every plan at PS+R is built around you, your sport, your goals, and your timeline.
If you’re working through a surgical recovery or trying to get ahead of an injury before it sidelines you, that’s precisely what we’re here for.
